What Is a Good Husband?

If you ask 100 women to define the phrase "good husband", you're likely to get 100 different answers. That's why becoming a good husband means more than just following the advice you get from Dr. Phil or Oprah. There's no such thing as "a good husband"--there is just the husband your wife wants and the husband you are. The difference between the two is what you have to overcome if you want to be your wife's ideal husband.
Learning how to be a good husband isn't easy, but it is essential if you want to avoid an unhappy marriage or (worse) a divorce. There's no such thing as a magic bullet that will change you into an ideal husband, but there are simple steps you can take to become the husband of your wife's dreams.

If you are looking for advice on how to be a good husband, you're about halfway there. Most men could care less about being a good husband, and the fact that you care enough to search for help on the Internet means you are probably a better husband than you think.

In the meantime, here are some things you can start doing now to become a good husband.

1. Make your wife laugh.

The way to a woman's heart is through her funnybone. Research shows time and again that women could care less about a man's looks as long as he is funny, caring, kind, and all the other adjectives that you can think of. Learn how to make your wife laugh, and do it every day. A laughing wife is a happy wife. A laughing husband is a good husband.

2. Share your joys and concerns with your wife.

Women want men who can express emotion and listen when they express their own. This may be the hardest thing about learning to be a good husband, because men are generally taught that they should be tough and hide their emotions. If you can't talk to (and listen to) your wife, you can never be a good husband.

3. Get a hobby.

Believe it or not, your wife will love you more if you start spending a little time outside the house doing something that you love. It can be anything healthy--golf, church, electric train sets, it doesn't matter .The point is to develop yourself as a person independently of your wife. Hobbies make us feel good and smile, and when our wives see us happy and independent, they automatically think of us as better husbands. Getting a hobby is a fun thing you can do right away to turn yourself into a better husband.
